waiting for them (a 'nice surprise').

standing near the burn pit his uniform and flack vest
suffered a direct Chili hit before he could take cover
from the incoming rations.
16JAN91: First shipping containers arrived.
(Conex/Milvan/ISOs). Several days of continuous rain
made the MSRs a sea of mud in which even larger four
wheel drive vehicles got stuck. Poor drainage resulted
in flooding of all our defensive positions. Cpt Gardner
(Company Commander) got soaked by failing into one of
these flooded positions at night (TWICE).
17JAN91: Air war began. An alert at 0315 took the unit to
MIOPP II.
Functional repack of ISO zhelters/Ward Milvans.
Integrated equipment/supplies (partial fill of
shortfalls) provided by DEPNEDS fielding team.
Lead Surgical Element established and trained. Classes
offered to both professional and paraprofessionals on
the following: IV insertion, Ortho and chest trauma,
blood transfusion, treatment of burns, combat
casualties, code blue, field suction apparatus,

D. FEBRUARY 1991:
5FEB91; New Hospital layout planned and drawn to scale.
'Traffic' through the pro-op area was eliminated.
6FEB91; Lead Surgical Element (LSE) departed to the 701st
M.SB, Ist Infantry Division. The staking team moved
forward to an initial site only 6 miles from Iraqi
defensive line--secondary site 15 miles from Iraqi
defensive line. A tent fire at TAA Henry (Spearhead)
left 12 soldiers with only the gear they were wearing
(2 M16s and 2 Protective Masks lost). No one got hurt.
Cause: wind separated the stovepipe from a potbelly
stove ('Herman Nelson'). The unit was unable to procure
all military replacement equipment, e.g., LBE for
soldiers.
9FEB91: Staking Team returned to TAA Henry.
