                c. Attacks (ground, air, or artillery) during the

       loading and unloading phases and at other times when the infantry

       is not dug in.

                d. Air strikes, due to limited availability of ADA

       weapon systems that can be deployed with an air assault task

       force.

                e. Electronic warfare (jamming), due to the heavy

       reliance on radio communications for command and control.

                f. Artillery or other fires that may destroy

       helicopters and air assault forces during PZ or LZ operations.,

                g. Small arms fire that presents a large threat to

       helicopters.B6 The air assault task force is employed only on

       missions that require the rapid massing or shifting of combat

       power, surprise, the use of flexibility, mobility and speed,

       gaining and maintaining the initiative and extending the depth,

       width, and breadth of the battlefield. The air assault task

       force must practice centralized and precise planning with

       decentralized and aggressive execution. The air assault task

       force is employed most effectively where the enemy has limited

       lines of communication and lacks air superiority as well as

       effective air defense systems.B7

             The 101st Airborne Division was redesignated the 101st

       Airborne Division (Air Assault) in 1974. Being the Army's only

       air assault division, the 101st is uniquely structured to

       implement air assault doctrine. The loist is characterized by

       the integration of its three infantry brigades, combat support
