            customs officials inspected the vehicles and placed them in a sterile area. On March
            26th, they were banded and sealed.
                Estimates for redeployment ranged from March 15th to April 15th. On March 28th,
            the Battalion received word from Brigade that its departure time had been changed
            from April 3rd to March 30th. The time changed several times. On the 29th of April,
                battalion executed final preparations, and held a manifest call at 5:00 PM.

            Released for the day, the soldiers slept for the first time undisturbed. On March
            30th, the battalion moved through customs at King Fahd International Airport and by
            4:30 that afternoon were on their way home.
                Upon arrival at Bangor, Maine, the soldiers were wj)lda:y hailed by the local popu-
            lace. Despite it being 1:00 AM on Easter Sunday, the local folks had prepared home-
            baked goods, bamers, and signs. Many of the soldiers were greeted by kisses from

            total strangers.
                The plane carrying the battalion home arrived at Fort Campbell at 5:00 AM.o.,i
            Easter Sunday. Despite the 27 degree temperatures, the wives and relatives of the
            soldiers were massed along the runway at Campbell Army Airfield. A reception was
            held in a fieldhouse by the runway. After an hour, the battalion returned by bus
            to the Battalion Area. After four hours of cleaning and turning n weapons, the
            battalion was released for the day.
                On April lst and 2nd, everyone worked half-days. The battalion commander held
            a formation on April 2nd, and congratulated everyone for their distinctive service.
            On April 3rd, everyone signed out on twenty-one days of block leave; their service
            to their country had been fulfilled; Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm were
            now a part of history -- history that each man helped to shape.
