CHEMICAL PROTECTION
The following is list of actions to be taken if chemical
agents are employed during Operation Desert Storm.
ELEMENTS AIR ASSAULTING INTO AO EAGLE:
1. Ensure all vehicles have M-9 paper on front and rear
bumper. Once in AO Eagle it is recommended that you tape some
M-9 paper on the top of your vehicle.
2. Inspect the M-9 paper periodically +or color change.
3. Ensure soldiers have M-9 paper an their BDO's (wrist,
Lipper arm and an@,,Ie) with name written an the M-9 paper or tape
around the upper arm.
4. Both firing batteries and TOC element need to take 2
MBAI Chemical Alarms, 4 M42's, 2 extra BA3517/U per alarm and
wire.
-with the cool temperatures we will encounter each
BAT%517 should be good for 24-36 hours of operation.
IF CHEMICAL AGENTS ARE EMPLOYED.%
Nonpersistant: Bo to MOPP 4. You will already be at MOPP i or

-Upon detecting all clear return to original MOPP level.
No decontamination is needed.
Persistant.- So to MOPP 4.
-Perform personnel decon within I minutes
-Perform equipment wipedown within 2-5 minutes.
-Perform vehicle spraydown within 15 minutes.
Spraydown of vehicles will contain contamination and prevent
spreading. It reduces the time needed to weather agent. After
DS2 use you can expect some agent residue (mostly vapor) to be
present for kn additional 2 hours.
FIELD EXPEDIENT DECONTAMINATES THAT CAN BE USED:
1. Sand/soil can be thrown on vehicles and worked in.
This will Absorb the agent. Then brush vehicles off.
2. Gasoline/JP4 can be washed onto the vehicle then
washed off.
3. To decon gun emplacements you can (1) spread STB
onto the ground or (2) spray the area with gasoline and then
burn it.
