          MEMORANDUM FOR Chief, G3 Tng, ATTN: MAL7 Sperl

          SUBJECT:  EPAC NBC Staff Training Guidance


          1. The following tasks are submitted by XVIII Abn Corps G3/NBC
          Directorate for use as guidance for Eastern Province Area command
          (EPAC) staff training.

          2. A divisional chemical staff element:

              a. Advises the commander and staff on all matters pertaining
          to NBC defense and chemical unit requirements to support division
          operations.

              b. Collects, collates, evaluates, and disseminates NBC data.
          Manages the NBC warning and reporting system (NBCRS).

              c. Formulates recommendations on NBC defensive posture and
          operations. Coordinates with the G2 on the formulation and
          dissemination of NBC Threat Warning System (NBCTWS) levels.

              d. Supervises/monitors training under NBC conditions
          throughout the command.

              e. Verifies first enemy use of biological or chemical
          weapons.

              f. Recommends task organiztion and employment of chemical
          units.


              g. Evaluates the nature and extent of contaminated terrain
          and units.

            . h. Formulates plans for NBC recon, decon, and/or smoke
          support.

              i. Conducts liaison with allied forces for NBC decon, recon,
          and smoke support.

              j. Coordinates with G4 on the status of NBC defense
          equipment availability, distribution and readiness.
