             this forward assembly area, eighty miles from their own assembly area, with a small support

             package. Every 72 hours, a new company rotated into the 1-4 Cav area of operation. The CAV

             and 1-1 ABB continued operations opposite the Iraqi 26th Infantry Division until relieved by Task

             Force Iron on 17 Feb. 199 1.


                     22 February 1991 brought an increase in the OPTENTO as the division prepared for G-

             Day. 1-4 Cav retamed to the berm screen line with 2nd ACR on its left flank and 2nd Battalion,

             34th Armor Regiment on its right. Troops began taldng the nerve agent pretreatment pills

             (dubbed PB tablets) at 2000 hours. These were taken every eight hours, three per day, but not

             more often due to possibly hazardous side effects. They played by a new set of rules. The ran-in
             headings for the se=hattacks followed North/South gdd lines. Only targets within plus or minus

                   degrees of a run-in could be engage& If a target-W outside of that fan, the aircraft was to
             exit to the South and reenter on a line which would put the target within the engagement
             parameters. Major Landreth, the battalion S3, led this mission while his assistant S3, Captain
             Williams, was in charge of the liaison party worldng with the 2nd Brigade's Tactical Actions
             Center (TAC). To ensure target data was accurate, tEe Apaches conducted a position update,

             verified by GPS (Global Positioning System), near the 2nd Brigade's TAC. The evening was
             good practice for later missions as no targets were found for the AH-6.4's that night.


                     On 23 February 1991, President Bush issues the final ultimatum for Iraq to withdraw its

             forces from KuwaiL 1-1 AB]3 and 4-1 Avn close on Tactical Assembly Area VagranL 2nd ACR

             of the previous night, this time in lst Brigade's sector, and found its prey. 'ne Apaches engaged
             enemy troops in a trench complex, and destroyed their tracks as the Iraqis attempted to flee. The

             brigade was rested, practiced and tested. It is ready for G-Day.


                     G-DAY, 24 FEBRUARY 1991 -Me Ground Offensive begans. This signaled the end of
             the Iraqi Army as an effective military force. This moniing for ihe Iraqi front line troops would
