              The only difficulty encountered in the desert was that the tape would un-bond if flown in the rain,
              and in the fmt few months of 1991, the KTO received larger and more frequent rains than normal.


                     Between 1 and 4 December, 4th Battalion, Ist Aviation Regiment (Provisional) (4-1 Avn)
              rail loaded at Camp Funston, Fort Riley. On the moming of 4 December, lst Attack Helicopter
              Battalion, Ist Aviation Regiment (1-1 ABB) flight crews received their final brief. At 0715 hours,
              they departed from Marshall Army Airfield as a single formation. Flying to the Northwest, they
              began a left circle which brought them across the top of division headquarters. The fly-by gave the
              same inspiring sound of rolag thunder as when they had retumed early that spring from @g
              at Fort Hood, Texas. 1-1 ABB arrived at Ellington Field, Texas on the evening of 4 December
              1991. The next moming at 0400 hours, 4-1 Avn (Prov.) would make the same flight, no fly-by.
              Enroute, one UH-1 experienced a tail rotor        ctio@d landed safely in Tulsa, Oklahoma. By
              9 December, all aircraft had arrived at @gton Field. Meanwhile, shuttling of aircraft to port was
              underway and completed the same day. Meanwhile, the 2nd Armored Division (Forward) vehicles
              am driven to the port at Bremerhaven, Federal Republic of Germany, on 1 1 December 199 1.

                     On 8 January 1991, 4th brigade units held accountability formations, vacated and locked all
              buildings. Building control was turned over to the installation. The brigade conducted its final
              Preparation for Overseas Mobilization and was bussed to Forbes Field. Transportation form
              Forbes Field to King Fahd international Airport, Daharan, Saudi Arabia, was a charted Continental
30 hours on 10 January
              1991. 4-1 Avn arrived at 2358 hours on 11 January 1991. The brigade had a few days wait at

              tent city before its ships s@ to arrive.

                     On 13 January 1991, ships began to arrive to offload @pment of the 1-1 AIM. Some of
              4-1 Avn's          begin conducting joint operations with the Navy searching for Iraqi Special
              Operation Te;lm.- and terrorists. 'Me rest of 4-1 Avn's aircraft arrived in port on 16 January and
