               taking NAPP (Nerve Agent Pyridostigmine Pretreatment) pills,
               one per eight hours (0310 hrs)..I-3 Atk Hei Bn reports
               aircraft fully uploaded; 1-227 Atk'Hel Bn in proces's of
               co-.npleteing upload (0340 hrs). Received SCUD alert: three
               missiles launched (one at israel,'two at Saudi Arabia) at 0414
               hrs, Attack battalions placed on REDcoN i at 130o hrs.
               Possible enemy ground attacks reported at QS 474998 and PS
               860460. 1-227 ordered to move to Holding Area vic PL MARY (NS
               860270) at 1345. Mission cancelled by DTAC at 1408 hrs (about
               one minute after 1-227 Atk iiel Bn @ad launched).

                    18 JAN: DRAIN orders all',units on 100% alert (0400 hrs).
               Units ordered to assume HOPP Level I at 0520 hrs. DTOC reports
               three large explosions in Dhahran; Dhahran airbase placed at
               Condition Red (later determined that these explosions were
               caused by friendly aircraft releasing bombs into an ordnance
               jettison area). lst CAV assumed MOPP Level 0 at 0855 hrs. Ist
               CAV FRAGO #9!-7 rescinded at 1400-hrs.

                    19 JAN: Received ER.AGO #63-91 (QUICKF-.X missions). lst CAV
               reports possible chemical attack vic Ns 8449 (later determined
               to be false). Received ist CAV FRAGOs #91-.7 and 91-8. DRAIN
               instructs units to stop taking NAPP PillS (1111 hrs).
               Instructed to have one Attack battalion and two OH58DIs on
               standby at AL QUASUMAH airfield prior to darkness. informed-----.
               that 1-7 CAV received DF2 instead of JP-5; instructed units to
               check -their aviation fuelers @s a precaution. Received mesage
               on Syrian lateral movement offorces. Bde prepares to
               defend/co,anterattack o/o.

               QUASUMA-;I airfield. Brigade commander directs Bde TAC to resume
               taking .14APP pills.

                    21 JAN: DMAIN directs MOPP Level i (0120 hrs). MOPP Level
               0 directed at 0505 hrs; stop taking NAPP pills. Received
               operations overlays for OPLAN WOODS.

                 @2,jA-N;: Iraqi forces reportedly moving south. 1-3 Atk Hel
               Bn launched recon from AL QUASUKAFF to determine if :raqis have
               seized buildings in the vicinity. DTAC send-s an o/o mission
               for OH58D team to conduct point recon vic NT 940240. OH58D
               team launched at 1400 hrs on recon mission. Received report of
               aircraft mishap involving AHI
               belonging to 1-7 CAV; sent safety officer to investigate.
               Brigade Cotimander reports that 1-7 CAV has sent aircraft to
               cover Special Forces troops recovering Iraqi deserters. 101st
               Airborne sends two UH60's to assist.

                    23 JAN: Received message regarding opera-,or training and
               issue of Modular @lhermal 'imaging System (M@IIS); Avn Bde would
               draw one system. Received.update on 3ACR firef@ght, EPW's and
               Iraqi deserters.
