                                     JULLS LONG REPORT

            1. (U) JULLS NUMBFRC ioe34-112e5 (00211), submitted by RILEY
            AFZN-PTM-CG Mr. Walter, 856-2225, (913)239-2225.

            2. (U) Operation DESERT sHrELD conducted by USCENTCBM on il/05/90.

            3. (U) KEYWORDS: REAL WORLD OPERATIONS, TRAINING, NBC, COMMDN TASK
            TRAINING.

            4. (U) TITLE- (Operations: Trainimgo Validation, CT Task
            031-503-1009

            5. (U) OBSERVATION: Validation of NBC CT Task # 031-503-1009
which includes "use of latrine" often is simulated or ignored.

            6. (U) DISCUSSION: Although the STP 21-1-SMCt suggested going
to the latrine alone, training sessions quickly revealed that
the contact hazard for the transfer of chemical agents +ram the
outer garment to the inner garment was too great to accomplish
the task alone. Yet, having a buddy assist in going to the
latrine "violated" the American soldier's habit of privacy.
Alone or with a buddy, validating this task to its fullest
            extent was not possible.

            7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: None.

            S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: thAbOC: Prepare and distribute a
publication which encourages units to visually demonstrate the
contact and cross-contamination hazard during training through
the use of a simulant (such as all-purpose flour) to generate an
            awareness of the hazard.

            9. (U) COMMENTS:
