B. ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
1. (u) The battalion accomplished much during
OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/STORM. Some of those
accomplishments are as follows:
a @l On August 9. 1990 the battalion was alerted to
prepar@ a technical intelligence team to support XVIII
Airborne corps. A team was task organized, loaaed out and
deployed to Fort Bra North Carolina on August 12, 1990.
Th@y -were attachedgg@o Company A, 519th MI-BDE, where they
began training soldiers, throughout XVIII Airborne Corps on
iraqls milit&r capabilities.- This team not only trained
soldiers at For@ Br:gg,,,NC; but also at Fort - Stewart,
Georgia and Fort cam Kentucky@othev continued training
programs up until th@ir deployment saadi Arabia oA August

b No on August 29 1990 the FNIB deployed its
initial force of three soldiers @ith the 513th MI BDt task
force to Saudi Arabia. These three soldiers began to la
the framework for the mission of providing technical
information and intelligence on the capabilities,
limitations, and vulnerabilities of the enemy's equipment.
They also began to lay the foundation for what turned out to
be -the theater chemical, biological, and biomedical
sampling missions.
C. t*) Later in September, the battalion deployed
three additional soldiers who began responding to numerous
requests for information . This cell began the lash up with
telligence Community
integrating and expandinq our databases. Thi@ cell was able
to p@ovide-the critical information necessary for offensive
and defensive Tanning while the JCMEC's main body awaited
strategic air an@ surface transportation.
d. On January 7, 1991 the main bod of the JCMEC
arrived t4ith all SerVices represented. TKey immediately
began an intense review of mission and collection
requirements with technical intelligence teams that would be
de;51oyed in support of VII Corps and the Ist Marine
Expeditionary Force of MARCENT-. JCMEC became fully
operational Fwithin one week after arrival in Saudi Arabia
(January 15, 1991).
e. tQ In addition to the Air Force, Navy, and Marine
augmentation a technical escort unit from Edgewood Arsenal,
Maryland was attached to be the theat@ handlers for
chemical, biomedical and biological samples. Technical
escort personnel were prepared to escort samples to CONUS
laboratories to verify any suspected first use -of chemical
munitions Iraq. @ The JCMEC was also augmented with two
members of @e British Armed Forces.
