MEMORANDUM FOR VII Corps Commanders
SUBJECT: Discipline and Professionalism
1. Discipline and professionalism are the keys to successful
combat mission accomplishment with minimum loss of life. Am
concerned some VII Corps officers, NCO leaders and soldiers are
under the false assumption that these key concepts are less
important during hostilities.
2. Lost weapons, "accidental" discharges, unauthorized loading
of magazines and rounds, soldiers dispatched in single vehicles
getting lost, vehicle and aircraft accidents, stolen vehicles and
or condoning the receipt of stolen
equipment are repetitive examples of indiscipline and
unprofessional conduct.
3. Believe 98% of our leaders and soldiers meet the Vil Corps
standard. 100% is the only acceptable measure. Each commander
must handle individual incidents of indiscipline as they see fit,
but I expect professionalism and discipline to be a major item of
command emphasis in every VII Corps Command.
