MEMORANDUM FOR 22d SUPCOM Surgeon
SUBJECT: Outbreak of Food-borne Illness
1. PROBLEM: On 18 May, CO CCS, 85th Evacuati
Hospital, reported that there were forty cases of gastroenteriti
Potato salad consumed at the Pentagon Dining Facility or Oasis
was suspected of causing the gastroentdritis.
2. FINDINGS:
a. A team consisting of SGT Deleon, CPL Bell and SPC GutieL,
reported to the hospital emergency room to gather information
the persons affected.
b. The team observed that several units had person
experiencing nausea, vomiting, mild diarrhea, stomach cramps E-
low-grade fever.
C. The units were the 281st Transportation, 225th Militz
Police, and 480th Military Police Company's. Sufficient data .
had not been obtained on the effected individuals to pin point t@
cause. Additionally, no stool samples were taken to determine t4
causative agent.
d. The following information was obtained from Mr Aldonis,
Pentagon Dining Facility Food service Manager.
(1) The 281st Transportation Company picked up enough fc
for 175 personnel and transported it to the Oasis club at 13
hours, 16 May, f or an unit picnic. The menu consisted
ossed salad, and potato salad from t.
Pentagon. Hot dogs and hamburgers were supplied from t.
Saudi Catering company, located at the Oasis Club.
(2) Units having parties can recluest food prepared by t,
Pentagon Dining Facility. Mr Aldonis warns the units 4
maintaining proper food temperatures.
(3) Units have prepared their own food using the
facility.
