to direct support of the maneuver brigades with its firing
batteries. At this point the battalions task
             organization was:

                            A Btry (DS) lst Bde
                            B LAtry (DS) Tiger Bde
                            C Bty,y (DS) 2nd Bde
                            HHB (GS)

Additionally, 4-5 ADA was given the mission to provide
ground security to the (Jivisio-ii5 s three command posts.
Each Vktlcan/ tinger Battery provided one Vulcan plitoon
             per, CP.

-i'@ie division's first war, plan was to support XVIII
Airborne Corps' defense in sector. The lst Cavalry
Division was given the mission of the counterattack force
that would sweep through end destroy the trail divisions
of the RGFC after a forward passage of lines through the
24-Lh ID(M). Intense coordination was conducted with both
1-5 ADA (24t[n ID) and Task Force 2-1 ADA, ilth ADA Sde to
ensure a coordinated and continually ad.jlksting iir defense
             umbrella over the divisions movement.

On 10 December 1990 4-5 ADA began transition to its
new MTOE configuration. Each Vi-tlcan/Stinger battery went
from three Vi-iloin platoons of three VLtlcans each and four
Stinger sections of five teams eqch, to two Vulcan
platoons of four Vl-tlcans and three Stinper sections of
four teams. The biggest change was the addition of
Battery D, 4-5 ADA, our Avenger 1:),.tre battery which
consisted of three of the six t@tthorized Avenger platoons
and a battery headquarters. This decision was made based
on information -that the remaining three Avenger platoons
would irrive prior, to the outbreak of hostilities and -LI-le
esire for batteries to train configured as they expected
to fight. Because of this reduction in combat power, each
V/S battery continued -Lo maintain the capability to
reconfiLILtre to its old IATOE combit configuration. This
provided contingency for tiie sudden outbreak of
hostilities prior to the anticipated arrival of the
remaining three Avenger plitoons which were conducting new
             equipment training at Fort 1-iood.

Upon the beginning of VI! Corps' arrival to theater,
Ist Cav was ordered to move to -rAA WENDY, northwest of
King i@halid Militit,y City (KV,.'@C), in -Lkie vicinity of Hafar
Al Batin, where it would be in a position to perform
