                         4-5 Air Defense Artillery Chronology



                 'ThroLkgliol-tt the duration of operations in Southwest
             Asia 4-5 ADA has maintained @i constant vigil of
             surveillance against enemy missile and air, attack, an air,
             defense umbrella over the entire Division area of
             operations and ground defense of designated division
             critical assets.

                 Upon arrival at the @@POD i,b Dhahran, -tn early warnii-ig
             network was established with FF 2-7 ()DA (Patriot) to
             provide early warning to the division of any impending
             missile attacks against the F@POD and SPOD. It was i 2z@
             hour a day system utilizing FIRC-127s to the division CP.
             In conjltction with this operation the battalion
             continually off--loaded equipment, which was sent on
             thirteen different ships, and received its personnel as it
             readied -for future operations. As divisional units were
             determined to be operationally capable, they deployed them
             to Assembly Area Horse. 4-5 ADA also deployed its
             elements in this fashion, attaching them to specific units
             to build an iir defense coverage base thit grew as the
             number of deployed division units grew. Battery B wis the
             first -tnit to deploy forces to the desert and provided
             liaison to the I Cav Divls Assault CP Forward. On 13 Oct
             90,, the battalion TAC deployed and assumed control of all
             ai@, defense operations. Fhe battalion also deployed its
             Air. Defense Fire Coordination Team to the USAF Control and
             Rel3orting Center (CRC) at Dhahran Air Bise. -1-his team
             allowed the division to have i direct link to all
nal surveillance sources
             available in theitei-.


                 'f'he battalion continued to deploy elements to AA Horse
             in order to continually increase and thicken its air
             defense coverage utilizing Stinger teams during the day,
             Avengers at night and FAtIRs providing i 24 hour,
             surveillance over the is-embly area. Additionally, Hiwk
             and Patriot coverage of AA Horse was coordiiii@@ed with the
             llth ADA Brigade, and with Hecwk locations within the AA.
             Upon completion of the deployment of all elements, the
             battalion switched from its strictly general support role
