             4. Phase Two: Defense of Wadi Al Bati.-ii


                 a. Phise Two began on 26 January 1991. The brigade
             occupied a defense in sector with the FEBA located from
             NS839995 to NS99299'7 to PIS139993. The brigade initially
             defended with three task forces abreast with I-'7 Cavalry
             screening the front of the division. On 6 February the
             brigade assumed responsibility for screening the Alestern
             portion of the divisional screen line. Phase Two concluded
             on 15 February when the screen line wts moved north to
             cover the international border with direct fires.


                  b. Important staff Rctions conducted during this phase
             included,


                     1) The planning priorities for the battle staff
                         included.
                         a) Continued defensive operations south of the
             Saudi-Iraqi border.
                         b) The on order mission to counterattack in-Lo
             the 2d Brigade sector to destroy enemy forces penetrating
             along the Wadi Al Batin or the RLtqi Highway.
                         c) Complete plans and orders for, offensive
             operations during Operation DESERT STORM.

                     2) Mi.jor orders published,
                         a> FRAGO 91--02-9- CoiAnterattxck to destroy enemy
             forces penetrating along the Wadi Al Ba-bin or the RLtqi
             Highway.    Issued to subordinate units on the morning of I
             February.
                         b) FRAGO 91-2-11: Reconnaissince of the man-maxde
             berm along the international border. Issued to subordinate
             units on 11 FebrLtAry.
                         c) FRAGO 91-2-12g Relief of 1-7 Civ on the
             western 1/3 of the division sector. Issued to subordinate
             units on the morning of 5 February.
                  d) OPLAN 91-3 (DESI---R-F STORM)- MoveiTient through
             the IID breach of Iraqi defenses or trail the iAD and 3AD
             on an envelopment of the enemy9s western flank. Conduct
             offensive operations igainst the Republican G@ttrd forces.
             Issued to subordinate units on 5 February.

                c. The chronology of Phase Two included

                       0127- Receive wirning from the DTAC that a
             Jordanian terrorist is possibly operating in the area. He
