            Chemical Casualties - Decontamination and Treatment

            Chemical Casualties will be handled in the following fashi.on:

            L. All suspected and confirmed chemical casualties with or
            without conventional wounds will be brought to a Chemical
            Casualty Collection Point established 30 to 50 meters downwind
            from the Battalion Aid Station (BAS). The unit with suspected or
            confirmed chemical casualties will notify the BAS that
            potentially contaminated casualties are enroute over the
            Battalion A & L net. The location of the Chemical Casualty
            Collection Point will be published in the Battalion OpOrder.

            2. The Chemical Casualty Collection Point, downwind from the
            BAS, will be augmented by 4 non-medical soldiers who will perform
            patient decontamination under the direction of a medical NCO.
            Minimal life saving emergency medical aid will be provided on the
            "hot" side of the Chemical Casualty Collection Point while more
            extensive medical care is provided on the "clean" side. Hasty
            decontamination will be performed with M25SAI and M291
            decontamination lits.

            3. In the event the BAS is contaminated, no attempt at patient
            decontamination will be made. Life saving aid will be provided
            and the patient evacuated to the next echelon of care as quickly
            as possible.

            4. Deliberate patient decontamination will be provided prior to
            entering the FSE. Litter patients will be decontaminated by 2
            teams of 4 non-medical soldiers. 'Ambulatory patients will
            decontaminate themselves utilizing a Sanator system. Minimal
            life saving medical aid will be provided prior to
            decontamination.

            5. Ambulances passing through vehicle deliberate decontamination
ate decontamination in
            order to be allowed to transport patients for hospital level
            medical care at Combat Support Hospital as quickly as possible.
            Air ambulances will pass through PL Vermont without required
            decontamination.

            6. Requirements:

                 a. Maneuver Battalions: 4 non-medical soldiers to man
            patient decon line.

                 b. Forward Support Battalions:

                     (1) 8 non-medical soldiers to man patient decon lines.

                     (2) 2 1/2 ton truck, 400 gallon w  ater trailer, and a
            sanator at the FSE.
