          MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD

          SUBJECT: Fielding of XM 21 and CAM

          1. Reference message HQDA, DAMO-SWC-AOC, 02230OZ Oct 90,
          subject; Early Fielding of Chemical Defense Equipment, Incoming
          Msg No. 184.

          2. Ms. Nancy Grice, DSN 584-3941, Comm 301-671-3941, clarified
          the word "may" in paragraph C(l), referenced message. The 30-40
          CAMs being refurbished are for Desert Shield, and available for
          shipment in approximately 60 days.
          3. Ed Austin, DSN 584-Z31 IX  Comm 301-671-3941 advised that the
          XM21 program has three components. First, recalibrate the five
          prototypes for near term deployment to Desert Shield. The
          interium portion of the program is to use the same basic hardware
          as the prototypes, make engineering changes to improve detection
          reliability, maintenance reliability and maintainability. Target
          fielding date for the interium configuration is lqtr FY92. The
          MZl Standard fielding is expected FY94. Additional information on
          the programs will be available 1 Nov 90. AMCCOM is conducting a
          In-process Review tqith testers, developers and the Chem School 29
          Oct.
