and were confronted with the physical evidence of torture chambers operated during the Iraqi
              occupation.
The route into Kuwait City travelled along the "Highway of Death".

              15 March
At approximately 2100 hours a tracked vehicle (Ml 13 APC) moved through the battalion area
dangerously close to the 4-1 TOC. The M 1 13 was stopped by CPT Morgan, the Bn's S 1, before
it could do any damage. 'ne crew of the M 1 13 was searching for 4th Bde, but had become
misoriented. The MI 13 was ground guided out of the area and given directions to the 4th Bde
              location.

              17 March
Today at 0900 Major General'nomas Rhames, Ist ID commander, visited the battalion.
General Rharnes discussed the difference between Hussein's army and the United State's army.
Our's was dedication to our country and government. Hussein has shown that he has no respect
for either his people or his army. America, on the other hand, did what it had to do to take care of
its soldiers. General Rhames stated that there were four main reasons why we won the war the
way we did. The soldiers wearing the uniform now were of the highest caliber, discipline, and
morale. The United States brought warriors to the war. The leadership of a strong NCO and
officer corps made the difference in the war. Also, all of the days of training paid off. We
executed what we had been trained to do. The fourth reason was the lethality and unforgivingness
of our weapon systems. General Rhames also informed the battalion that the order for
redeployment would be the 18th Airborne Corps, 2ACR, I AD, I ID, and then 2 AD (FYv'D) .

en located at PU540240, in eastern Iraq. The
aircraft began to leave Kuwait Two at 1300 in flights by aircraft type, and began to arrive at 1348.
The ground convoy left Kuwait at 1230 and arrived at 2230.

              24 March
The Battalion started taking weekly malaria pills, which would continue for six weeks after
              returning to Ft.Riley.

              27 March
The Brigade flight surgeon requested the names, rank, SSN's and unit of all door gunners
in order to make 4186's so they could begin receiving flight pay. The 4186's were contingent on
approval from Ft. Rucker and would expire ninety days after redeployment.

              28 March
Dustoff 465 landed unannounced in B Company's area, low on fuel and searching for a refuel ing
point . All Quickfix missions were cancelled until further notice for two reasons. The airspace that
the EH-60's operate in was control led by the Air Force and placed off limits. The second reason
that the Quickfix missions were cancelled concerned maintenance considerations. The EH-60's
were flying many hours without much success gathering useful information, so it was decided to
              save the airframe hours.

              29 March
Tle EPW cage at Division Main (PU740000) was closed. The new location was selected
              as (PU408260).
