         SMALLER AGENT DROPLETS. TO ESTIMATE PERSISTENCY TIMES FOR THESE
         SMALLER DROPLETS9 SIMPLY APPLY'A CORRECTION FACTOR. FOR EXAMPLE,
         A 1000 MICRON DROPLET WILL HAVE A PERSISTENCY TIME APPROXIMATELY
         40 PERCENT OF THAT LISTED IN THE TABLES (1000/2500 = 0.4).
         3. THE PERSISTENCY TIMES ARE ALSO AFFECTED BY METEOROLOGICAL
         CONDITIONS. ALL PERSISTENCY TIMES LISTED ABOVE ASSUME A WIND
         SPEED OF 3 M/S (6 KNOTS). HIGHER WIND SPEEDS THAN THIS WILL
         GENERALLY PRODUCE SHORTER PERSISTENCY TIMES, AND LOWER WIND SPEEDS
         WILL PRODUCE LONGER PERSISTENCY TIMES. ALSO NOTE THAT AT MODERATE
         TO HIGH AIR TEMPERATURES AND SIGNIFICANT LEVELS OF SUNLIGHT, THE
         VEHICLE AND SAND SURFACES WILL LIKELY BE MUCH WARMER THAN AIR
         TEMPERATURE, WHICH WILL REDUCE THE PERSISTENCY TIMES. ALL THE
         PERSISTENCY TIMES LISTED ABOVE ASSUME CONSTANT WEATHER CONDITIONS.
         CHANGES IN WEATHER WILL AFFECT THE PERSISTENCY TIMES.
         4. SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS ALSO AFFECT PERSISTENCY TIMES.
         CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS WET OR DRY, COMPACT OR LOOSE SOIL, DRY OR
         CLEAN VEHICLES, ETC., ARE IMPORTANT. THE VEHICLE PERSISTENCY
         TIMES (TABLE 1) ASSUME CLEAN, FLAT, DRY, CARC PAINTED METAL
         SURFACES. OTHER VEHICLE SURFACES, SUCH AS ALKYD PAINTED METAL OR
         RUBBER, WILL WEATHER DIFFERENTLY.

         5. THE PERSISTENCY TIMES FROM SAND ARE SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER THAN
         FROM THC VEHICLE. SOME AGENT UILL SORB INTO THE SAND AND COULD
         F'RESENT A HAZARD WHEN THE TERRAIN IS CROSSED AND THE SOIL IS
         DISTURBED.
PREVIOUSLY CONTAMINATED SURFACE IS VISIBLY DRY,
         IT HAS NOT NECESSARILY WEATHERED TO A SAFE LEVEL FOR EITHER
         CONTACT OR VAPOR HAZARD DUE TO POSSIBLE DESORPTION, ESPECIALLY
         FOR AGENT HD.
