        1. AS REQUESTED IN REFERENCE As PERSISTENCY TIMES OF CHEMICAL
        AGENTS ON CARC PAINTED VEHICLES AND SAND ARE PROVIDED. THE
        PERSISTENCY TIMES ON CARC PAINT (TABLE 1) ARE BASED ON THE FM 3-4
        COORDINATING DRAFT. THE PERSISTENCY TIMES ON SAND (TABLE 2) ARE
        BASED ON MODELING RESULTS USING NUSSE4 METHODOLOGY, THE ARMY'S
        STANDARD MODEL FOR ATMOSPHERIC DISPERSION AND SURFACE EVAPORATION
        OF CHEMICAL AGENTS. SINCE NUSSE4 METHODOLOGY APPLIES ONLY TO
        GRASSLAND, A CORRECTION FACTOR OF 2.5 HAS BEEN APPLIED TO DERIVE
        THE RESULTS IN TABLE 2, AS RECOMMENDED IN FM 3-4. THE PERSISTENCY
        TIMES LISTED BELOW (FOR BOTH SURFACES) ARE THE TIMES TO ACHIEVE
        90 PERCENT EVAPORATION OF THE ORIGINAL CONTAMINATION.

        FM 3-4 USES A PARTICLE SIZE OF 2500 MICRONS (2.5 MM). WE BELIEVE
        THE LARGEST PARTICLE SIZES (FOR THE IDENTIFIED OPERATION DESERT
        SHIELD THREAT WEAPON SYSTEMS) WILL RANGE FROM 300 TO 1000 MICRONS
        (0.3 TO I MM). SINCE PARTICLE SIZE IS APPROXIMATELY PROPORTIONAL
        TO PERSISTENCY TIME, PERSISTENCY TIMES WOULD BE SHORTER FOR
