DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY
65TH Military Police Company
APO, NY 09657
AFZA-AP-BN-BA 20 SEP 90
MEMORANDUM FOR: Commander; 65th MP CO, APO NY 09657
SUBJECT: After Action Review of Predeployment and Deployment Process
This After Action Review is prepared for review of problems associated with the
deployment of the 65th Military Police Company from Fort Bragg, North Carolina to
Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
1. Problem: Dehydration.
la. Discussion: We suffered a few casualties to the desert heat upon arrival.
The dry heat will kill you if you don't take precautions.
lb. Recommendations: Drink plenty of water. Start drinking before you leave
the States and continue while aboard the plane enroute to Saudi Arabia.
2. Problem: Not enough room for all individual equipment.
2a@ Discussion; Most MP's were issued a medium ruck sack. This is not large
enough to accommodate all the equipment required to be carried.
2b. Recommendations: Have everyone buy or be issued a large ruck sack.
3. Problem: Soldiers do not have personal affairs in order.
3a. Discussion: Soldiers need to have will and power of attorneys made out as
they enter the company as part of the inproccessing stage. All bills and creditors
should be given the unit's deployed address so financial distress is not an added
burden on the soldier.
3b. Recommendation: Have each soldier initial and turn-in to operations a
predeployment checklist.
4. Problem: Accountability of equipment.
4a. Discussion: As the deploying unit will require most, if not all of its
TO&E equipment, each platoon leader and section supervisor must have an accurate
count of what his platoon/section deployed with.
ion: Use hand receipts for accountability.
5. Problem: Transportation of unit's basic load of ammunition.
5a. Disovsuion: As the unit may travel commercial air, space and weight may be
restricted. If the unit has the opportunity to deploy its equipment by sea, then
ammo should also be sent.
