                   OPERATION DESERT STORM


                           On 170207C January message from 101st ABN Division Main
                   CP stated that Operation Desert Stoi,rri had begun. All
                   subordinate units were notified and put on 100% %lert.
                   Chemical agent alarrra were placed into operation.                             One attack
                   helicopter company arid one lift. company was placed on REDCON
                   3.
                           The news of the successful air bombing lifted everycine's
                   morale. Each day 10b% security was maintained from 0500
                   0700 hrs and from EENT - 2100 hrs. At all other times the
                    ecurity was decreased to 50%.
                           On January IS 2d BDE TF went to MOPP I for the first
                   time    in response to an Iraqi SCUD launched at Saudi Arabia.
                   Over    the next week TF soldiers were ordered to go to MOPP I
                   thru    MOPP III during SCUD launches.
                           On JanL;ary 19 British air units and a field hospital
                   were    arriving Qaysumah airfield. Syrian forces began moving
                   through 2d BDE TF eastern sector and continued to move for
                   the next week
                           One soldier accidently shot himself. The TF commander
                   issued guidance that all magazines must be out of the weapons
