             MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION

             SUBJECT: TRAINING POLICY LETTER 9X: TRAINING AMMUNITION SAFETY


             1. REF: AR 385-6Z
             2. Purpose: To implement XVII; Airborne Corps policy on
             training ammunition usage.

             3. Due to operational and host r,.at,on concerns, !io permanent
             tmmacl. areas will be des4.unated in Saud4 Arabia. As a result.
             the  following ammunition @ypes will not be fired durina training:

                  -k.
                  4   20mm HE


                  b.  40mm HE/HEDP


                  C.  105mm/155mm/203mm !CM/DPICM


                  d.  155mm ADAM/RAAMS


                  e.  MLRS

             4. Fragmentation hand grenades may  be used during           at a
             dedicated hand arenade ranre, or as  the last event c.-i a fire and
             maneuver range. Troops will not maneuver through @llie hand
             grenade target area. The target area will be cleared by EOD when
             the live fire exercise is complete.

             5. Depleted uranium (DU) tank rounds (105mm and 120mm APDS) will
             Inot be used during training due to environmental and health
             considerations.

                  a.  30mm HE

                  b.  All HEAT ammunition, to include:

                      (1) TOW

                      (5) 90mm RR
