         SUB,TECT: Bu rn Injuries


         1. Purpose. This memorandum provides information concerning the burn
         injuries suffered by victory Division soldiers since deployment to
         Saudi Arabia.

         2.' The Victory Division has experienced a total of 12 burn injuries
         since deployment, including 5 burn injuries during the period 1-21 Dec
         90. The primary causes and the total number of burn cases by cause
         'ilre as follows:


                    CAUSE                                    OF INJURIES
             a.  Burning latrine waste with MOGAS                  4
             b.  Accidental discharge of Halon extinguishers       2
             C.  Burning trash                                     2
             d.  Immersion heater flashback                        I
             e.  Cleaning tools with flammable liquid              1
             f.  Attempting to e@nguish generator fire             I
             g.  Exploding kerosene heater                         1

         3.  Commanders and supervisors are reminded to review Victory Division
         Safety Lessons Learned lis 3, 4, and 5 and victory Division Safety
         Bulletins I a and 13. Safety Bulletin 116, currently being published,
         highlights causes of burn injuries and preventive measures.
