b. The "old" DEET liquid must be applied to all exposed
skin at 4 hour intervals to be effective. The "new" DEPT Creme
must be applied every IP hours, is more resistant to sweat, and
is more effective. Flies may still land on your DEET protected
skin but usually.do not bite through the skin to deposit their,
diseases in you. Even though it is hot, the wearing of your DCU
uniform over your arms, legs, head. and trunk will reduce the
target area for these flies. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO
MAINTAIN YOUR OWN ENCAMPMENT 14YGIENf7 AND TO AF78ULIIRLY APPLY
DEET.
C. Use the Permethrin aerosol spray to spray inside your
mosquito netting, If you have any, the inside of your sleepina
covers, and your uniform. A light coat is all that is necessary
every 4 or 5 days.
d. There are spiders, scorpions, and poisonous snakes in
the area. While not common, you should try to sleep off of the
ground and throughly examine your clothes and sleeping covers
before use. Your Command Surgeon can obtain further information
and more specifics through the Division and Corps Surgeon.
4. The Chemical Warfare Threat-
0. You are being provided with dangerous, very Potent drugs
that can helo you survive if sub.' iected to a nerve agent attack.
*INCORRECT USE AND/OR USE OF THESE DRUGS AT THE WRONG TIME CAN
KILL YOU, OR AT LEAST CAUSE YOU TO BECOME COMBAT INEFFECTIVE.
Ensure that you are familiar with the use of Mark-I kits. Keep
votirself well hvdrated. Do NOT use the tablets in the blister
pack until you are told to do so by your commander-
6. The chemical agents known to be used by opposing forces
consist almost exclusively of a blister agent (MUSTNRD) in a
form that adheres to your skin And a form that can be breathed,
and nerve ¢ in a short and Iona acting form. Review of the
proper use of your chemical ensemble, the use of the drugs
Provided to you and your medics. and the control of your fear
and oroup panic reactions will enable you to probably survive.
Failure to do so will probably result in your death should you
be attacked by these agents.
!5. These medical and chemical threats are no joke! Do what you
have been taught, but perhaps ignored on exercises. Review your
equipment, and be sure you have it all and know how to use it.
