         MMRANDUM FOR Distribution

         SUB=: Defective M-17 Mask Hoods


         1. Hoods with the following NSN# 4240-00-999-0420, produced by K-TYAL International
         on contract # 09-82-C-5372 and DAAA 09-53-C-4692, have been found to be defective.
         (REF CV MSG # 02521 0900 338/90)
         2. The deficiencies found include inlet val@ openings too small, improperly
         located zipper which leaves a split or opening above it, torn or poorly stitched
         seams.

         3. Section NOD's and NBC personnel will @diately inspect unit personnel to
         insure that we do not have mask hoods that fall into this category.

         4. Any hood found to be defective will be changed imediately and reported to
         Unit NBC Personnel, SSG Glen Robinson or SPC Sharon Furg@rson.;
