-Laboratory areas were ransacked and laboratory
chemicals (acids and other chemicals) were spilled
and dumped in the lab areas. The loss of the labs
will hinder testimg which must be done to operate
                       the plants effectively.
                       c. Loss of equipment and supplies related to O&M
of the sewage. treatment plants and collection
system was extensive. Examples aria the theft and
-damage to vehicles, spare parts, piping,
                       mechanicallelectrical equipment, and various tools.
Although, these occurrences will cause delays, they
will not prevent the plants' start-up.

'd. There was significant loss of records in
administrative and laboratory areas. These are
valuable in measuring and reporting current plant
                       performance.

                       S. Progress to date in sewage collection and treatment
system recovery efforts is dif f icult to measure as there is no
known accurate and detailed assessment of damage after
liberation. A summary of the current status follows:
The Ardiya plant is operating now. The Rictaa. and @abra
STP's are ready to operate now, with only minimal assessment
and Preventive maintenance of mechanical and electrical
components. Inspection of the mechanical and electrical
operation and control systpmn for all plants to assure they
are without obvious defects or damage will provide adequate
basis for starting the plants. Restoration of power and EOD
clearing of Jahra STP is critical; efforts at cleaning up the'
ahra plant and preparing for operation began Monday, 1 Jund,
but have been delayed because of the.aforementioned problems.
OMI has installed numerous temporary pumps, repaired some
pump stations, cleared numerous lines and manholes, and is
continuing with damage assessment, repair, and procurement of
necessary replacement and repair parts. OMI claims
significant improvement in the last 10 days in terms of their
staffing and work efforts directed at restoration. Figure 3
is a recommended format for measuring progress at all critical
sewage collection and treatment system components. ' As of I
June,, there are 6 out of 17 main pump stations operational, 27
out of 30 minor pump -stations operational, and 19 out of 27
                 screw lift stations operational.

                       6. In regard to the odor resulting form H2S (hydrogen
sulfide gas - the rotten egg smell): The water supply
contains about 500 pounds of sulphate (SO4) per million
