TRAINING ISSUE NO. 9 Dental Training
(SGHR ITEMS NOs. 205, 206, 217)
DISCUSSION: Dental staff ATH training was inadequate. All primary and
alternate dental team members need to exercise with the ATH during set up and
operation. Most acute dental problems were in specialty areas of oral surgery,
endodontics, and orthodontics. Many deployed dentists had inadequate training
in these areas. Dental officer readiness training in AFI 41-106, as well as
USAF Dental Service Readiness Training Guidelines place emphasis on ancillary
medical mission with little time spent on dental specialty training.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Adhere to ACC Reg. 400-10. Divert dental sick-call to the ATH
during exercises. Review ATH dental personnel requirements and alter if
required. Review dental training requirements and adjust as necessary.
ACTIONS REQUIRED: Ensure adherence to ACC Reg. 400-10 for dental personnel
assigned to ATHs. Review ATH dental personnel requirements and make changes if
required Review dental training requirements.
ACTIONS COMPLETED: ATH dental manpower requirements have been reviewed and and
additional dentist has been added to the ATH. ACC issued a policy letter to
all MTFs reminding them of ACC Reg. 400-10 training requirements. Review group
evaluated training requirements and a new USAF Dental Service Readiness
Training Guide has been distributed.
STATUS: Closed.
