       TRAINING ISSUE NO. 4 Weapons Training Guidance Needed
       (SGHR ITEM NO. 45)

       DISCUSSION: Some weapons training was not accomplished until mobilized, based
       on AFRES decision not to train until that time. Range time was limited and
       there were a limited number of slots per month. Medical personnel need more
       than just "qualification" training, they need "employment" training.

       RECOMMENDATIONS: ARC must work to get medical personnel trained with as many
       qualified as required by AFI 41-106. Medical personnel should be required to
       have weapons employment training. Identify theater requirements for training
       and number of weapons. Establish training and UTC committees review AFI 41-106
       weapons requirements.

       ACTIONS REQUIRED: Review weapons and training requirements listed in AFI 41-
       106 and amend if required. Evaluate possible solutions to increase weapons
       training in the ARC. Identify theater weapons requirements for medical
       personnel.

       ACTIONS COMPLETED: New AFI 41-106 weapons and training requirements were
       reviewed, amended and/or validated by UTC by appropriate MAJCOMs, prior to
     publication. Theater weapon requirements have been validated and the standards
     set in AFI 41-106 meet the requirements. ARC headquarters are pursuing methods
     of increasing pre-mobilization weapons training.
