LOGISTICS ISSUE NO. 24 Environmental Control in AE Warehouses
(SGHR ITEM NO. 99)
DISCUSSION: Sufficient warehouse space was available on AE warehouse at RAF
Upper Heyford; however, total control of environment was not possible. The
warehouse was cold, damp, and had little environmental control capability.
Heat provided by AGE equipment. AGE units were turned off when warehouse was
unmanned. Lack of supply manpower made it impractical to staff supply section
24-hours per day. Had to check warehouse on cold nights and periodically start
heating units so that some liquid items did not freeze. Life expectancy of
supplies and equipment may be altered due to extreme temperature changes and
humidity.
RECOMMENDATION: Essential to be able to control climate in the warehouse
before a facility is approved.
ACTIONS REQUIRED: Noted procedural item. RAF Upper Heyford has been closed,
other WRM storage warehouses currently under use meet requirements for climate
control.
ACTIONS COMPLETED: N/A.
STATUS: Recommend closure.
