Canteen Insert Water Purifier

The Canteen Insert Water Purifier is currently in research. We are trying to identify an item that can provide safe drinking water to soldiers during an emergency where the only source is untreated surface water.
The device is expected to be compatible with the Army's standard 1 and 2 liter canteens. It will remove disease-causing microbes, make the water taste better, and work immediately without the use of iodine or chlorine tablets. It should treat approximately a two week supply of drinking water for one person (about 84 quarts, or 21 gallons). We hope to develop an item that can be transported in the canteen cover already in the field.
