         SUBJECT: Chemical Antidotes and Pretreatments

         1. Purpose: To provide information on purpose and use of chemical
         antidotes and pretreatments which is carried by the soldier.

         2. Facts:

            a. Pyridostigmine bromide (PB) is a nerve agent pretreatment
         which significantly enhances soldier survival when taken with the
         Mark I nerve agent antidote kit. The Corps Commander with
         advisement from his staff (medical, chemical, intell., etc) will
         give the order to begin taking the PB when appropriate. Once the
         order is given to begin taking PB, the soldier must takes one
         tablet every eight hours (COMMAND RESPONSIBILITY). Each soldier is
         issued two weeks supply (two blister packs, each pack containing 21
         tablets). The PB is effective in two hours after the soldier takes
         his/her first tablet.

            b. Mark I nerve agent antidote kit (NAAK) is issued three per
         soldier. As soon as the soldier is exposed to nerve agents and
         experiences',the symptoms Isalivation, blur vision, etc), he/she
         administers-one NAA-K. If symptoms persists, the buddy will
         administer the second and/or third NAAK if necessary based on signs
         and symptoms.
