         (U) SUBJECT: Update on the Medical Biological Warfare (BW) Defense
         Program for Operation Desert Shield (U)

         1. (S). PURPOSE OF ADDRESSAL: Information Briefing to provide an
         update on the Anthrax and Batulinum Vaccination Program, vaccine
         production, and other medical BW defense initiatives for operation
         Desert Shield.

         2. (U)       CT V     To provide an update since the last Tank
         Prebrief on 11 December 1990.

         3. (S) MAJOR POINTS:

             a. Main Points to be Made:

                 o On 2 Jan 91, the Preventive Medicine Vaccination Team
         deployed to the AOR with sufficient vaccines to immunize
         service members (SM) anthrax and          for botulinum to in.

                 o Treatment of Anthrax Casualty
                   o An additional =aaaes of anthrax vaccine are in the
         AOR as theater contingency stocks.
                   0 =@@a]@icts of Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) antibiotic are in
         AOR           for 30 days). Blister pack distribution (i per SM) to
         be c mpleted in 2 weeks. objective is enough Cipro for   @Sl@ for
         30 days (25 Jan 91).

                 o Treatment of Botulinum Casualty               of botulinum
         antitoxin in the AOR.

                 o Vaccination Status - About=r-@m lave been vaccinated
         (lst dose) for anthrax and the balance of the        Slif icy 22 Jan 91.
         Vaccination of second dose will start on 22 Jan 91. Estimate that
         by 12 Feb 91 at least @Sli should be protected against anthrax.
