after drair-dng which made them difficult to pack-up. Many NBC officers suggested

(S) With respect to logistical resupply, the Sassy Management Unit (SMU) did
not become an effective focal point for supply control untu around Novembe-.4 5
From a supply perspective, all I MEF requests for NBC equipment should have been
consolidated at the SMU prior to establishing a demand Wlih Albany.46 However,
prior to November every unit in SWA was registering their own separate demands.
Separate unit demands created an almost unmanageable situation for the SMU which
had to sort out double orders and backorders of NBC equipment, and ocher items. NBC
personnel, frustrated with the supply system, and using every means a, their disposal to
get their ut-dts ready, worked as much among themselves as with supply. As late as
February, sorting out true T/E deficiencies and assessing readiness for NBC Defense
Equipment remained a major problem for the MEF .47
(S) The biggest problem items for logistical re-supply were the M17A2 CB
Protective Mask and OG-84 Protective Suit, both were in critically short supply
throughout the war.48These two items are fielded on an individual 'Ssue basis, and
are often allocated based on T/O strength. Newly established provisional NBC units
and the great ffiflux of ur@t augmenters created confusion over what units actually
rated. There were major problems in obtaining proper sizes and quantities of suits and
masks.
(S) A surprising amount of new equipment was accelerated out of Research and
Development (R&D) for logistical fielding to units in SWA. By October, the MEF was
informed that the fouowing new items of new NBC equipment were being fielded by
