kilometer trip took almost eight hours. The path taken was littered
with mines, unexploded ordnance, and Iraqi fighting holes. Arriving
at OSEO defensive positions were taken up. First Battalion Sth
Marines was immediatly resupplied from the elements of CSSD-28 sent
forward with the Regimental Log Train. The Regiment MT Chief guided
CSSD-28 into position and soon emptied all fuel and water.
The Civil Affairs Group was requested by lst gn Sth Marines to
handle EPW's and was dispatched immediately, with a guide from the
Regimental S-3. A hole was dug to hold EPW'S, however, food and water
could not be secured for them. Local pump houses were tried, without
success. The Regiment/CSSD-28 managed to fill a 6000 gallon truck and
        lift two pallets of MRE'S.
Instructions were received at 1200 to move forward, however,
CSSD-28 was again out of fuel. CSSD-28 was informed by DSG-2 that
instead of pushing supplies forward from DSG-2, they now had to pull
them from the rear. The Regimental Log Train moved north on grid line
        67. CSSD-28 again sent available supplies with the Regimental Log
Train, and CSSD-28 stayed behind to refuel. On the way forward
the Regimental Log Train had to cut through fences to facilitate
        movement.
At approximately 14eO, on 26 February, word came from Regiment to
go to MOPP-2, followed shortly by MOPP-4. Additionally, the NBCD FOX
vehicle picked up traces of chemical agents. Word came within 1/2
        hour cancelling the threat.
The Regimental XO passed word that combat elements were short
fuel and the Regimental Log Train was to move forward quickly,
bypassing all EPWS. Several times enemy soldiers were disarmed, then
        provided with water and food.
One of the Regiment's TOW sections ran out of fuel and five
gallons were provided to each vehicle by draining the refueler and
using fuel cans from other vehicles. The Regimental Log Train
continued forward with the TOW section, and entered the new position
at night. Entering the new position, enemy BMP's and tanks were
observed approximately 800 meters to the right or east flank. The TOW
section moved to protect this flank until 3d Sn 23d Marines engaged
and took out the threat. At this time, the Regiment was without fuel.
CSSD-28 moved throughout the might, guided by a GPS they borrowed
from the Regimental Log Train. CSSD-28 arrived in the early morning
and settled into position to the Regimental Log Train rear. At first
light, on the 27th, two tanks were observed to the right or east
flank. These tanks were running and guns pointed towards the log
train. The crews climbed out of the tanks and surrendered. A large
EPW camp was quickly constructed. As EPW's arrived, large groups were
moved back to the Division EPW compound. Marines from 3d Bn 23d
Marines, carried by the log train, were used to guard the EPW
        compound.
Throughout the day on 27 February, the Regiment was resupplied
        with fuel and ammunition.
On the 28th of February, the Regimental Log Train moved to
consolidate with the Regimental Main CP.
