as proved the most beneficial - just recently (24 Feb) tire learned
,oat our field hospitals could pass, with some logistical problems,
information to us through LAN users close to their units. T@'ie
ELMS/LAN capability allows us to bypass message traffic delays, downed
TAC lines and time delays when talking to Europe and especially CONUS
commands. It has proven superior to obtaining telefax transmissions
(since they are transmitted to machines not under our control - we
don't have one yet) and thp information is timely (in house - same
time transmission). With this capability we have been able to
routinely transfer our casualty data base - with records pi'@me-tWntli-y-at
1,064 - to any ELMS/LAN address with a need to know.
Need:
With its proven capability to transfer timely, acoura-te@
information to field commanders, Europe and CONUS commands and to pass
and receive information to units within the Casualty Section, the need
becomes apparent to have each of our hospital liaison teams equipped
with a PC, appropriate software and the ELMS/LAN capability.
Productivity is diminished at each hospital - without this capability
- to handwritten reports and the availability of verbal communication.
Presently, only the liaison teams at Fleet Hospitals 5 and 15 have
computer capability - no ELMS/LAN. Fleet Hospital 6, the 47th AH in
Bahrain and our letter companies have no AOP capabilities at all.
