From: Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force
Subj: I MEF CASUALTY SECTION AFTER ACTION REPORT
Enel: (1) I MEF Casualty Statistics
(2) I MEF Casualty After Action Report
1. The enclosed report provides valuable insight into the breadth and
scope of our casualty assistance efforts in-support of Operations
Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Combined with the after action report
from CG FMFEUR, we should have a good baseline to plan for future
contingencies of this magnitude. The system worked well due to the
imagination, hard work and concern for the well-being of our troops
injured on the field of battle by all concerned. My hope is that we
can use this information to make the next iteration easier.
2. Additionally, I have attached some interesting statistical infor-
mation that breaks out our casualties into types and'categories as well
as a complete by-name roster. Future planners and other interested
parties will find these statistics to be very revealing--I know I have.
3. I have instructed my Assistant Chief of Staff, G-1 to forward our
entire database to the Director of Manpower and Reserve Affairs at
Headquarters, U. S. Marine Corps for further study after we retrograde
from Southwest Asia.
