Brabham, and we were talking yesterday, but Gen Myatt and I were
walking around and he already knew this about the gas mask covers
- I mean the pouches. What's happening is that they have worn
them everyday since they have been here, training, and they are
wearing out and they are looking bad. I looked at a bunch of
them. Maybe if we had it to do all over again, after the first
month we probably should have taken those off and set them aside;
but what's happening now is that the results of the gas mask are
getting worn, particularly in the hoods. I saw a whole bunch of
hoods that have holes in them, and they are patching them up with
duct tape inside and out. This could be a serious problem, so I
want you to leap right on that. We have done so much training,
carried them around so much, we are wearing them out ahead of
time, and that's not good. Okay.
COL HILL: Sir, sometime ago we put in a letter to Central
Command on telephone requirements for the northern area. Gen
Coble, the J-6, forwarded those requirements on to Gen Khalid.
This morning there was a message to all the service components
stating that the Saudis had been inundated with requests for
commercial telephones, that they were getting the same requests
through various means, and now they want everyone to come back in
now and reconfirm what their real requirements are. We are going
to do that, but we are also going to go back in and find out if
this has put any stop on the original request we had put in.
That's all I have.
COL REDLIN: Morning, sir. In addition to the flow of II MEF,
there were some people that cane in last night from I MEF, to
include a small group of the FSCC folks - there were five of
them. There were four people from the CAG.
on the MWR side of the house, the McGreeny schedule is
out with the lunch with the Commandant tomorrow, out at Division;
and if you're available right after this meeting, the escort
officer for the Pope visit can brief you on the schedule. That's
all I have.
COL HASTINGS: We will do that over at the other side.
CAPT JOHNSON: Morning, sir. We completed the move in to Mishab
yesterday. They are up to 65 in Shaikh Isa and 35 in ASU. We
will complete that Army hospital in early January and bring it up
north.
I've mentioned it previously, but it's becoming a extreme
problem, materials. We sent out a P-For two weeks ago. It's
tighter and tighter. I'll work with the 4 and see sane thing
with the phone. They are centralizing to the point they are
strangling us.
COL LIST: I have talked to BGen Stevens. He was the one that
gave me the word on the approval of Mishab; but I have to agree
with Mike, this process is not been simplified. We are still
constrained by materials.
