forward his supply convoy to begin resupply and continued preparation to
pursue the attack on the third day.
Resuming offensive action on the morning of the 26th (6+2),
Lieutenant Colonel Youngs' battalion was assigned an objective of
critical importance, the seizure and defense of a six-lane highway and
cloverleaf which was also a major resupply route for Iraqi forces
defending Kuwait City. Quickly exploiting the success of the previous
day, Lieutenant Colonel Youngs skill-Fully and aggressively maneuvered
his reinforced battalion forward. Again, the speed and violence of his
attack overwhelmed the enem%@ and prevented their establishing any type
of defense. Reaching his objective'prior to nightfall, Lieutenant
Colonel Youngs used his armor assets to quickly establish blocking
positions within his sector, and deny the enemy's use of the highway.
During the advance and, later, the tenacious defiance of the highway,
Lieutenant Colonel Youngs' forces destroyed or captured 34 tanks,
personnel carriers, and other vehicles. The devastating effect of his
action had a significant impact in the breakdown a+ Iraqi military
capability in Kuwait City and in the early liberation of the city.
Throughout this 100 hour campaign, Lieutenant Colonel Youngs
aggressively and relentlessly maneuvered his battalion in pursuing the
enemy. He controlled the actions of over 1300 Marines including
attached companies of tanks, amphibious assault vehicles, and engineers
through the two heavily mined obstacle belts and three days and nights
of intense combat. These actions resulted in the capture or destruction
of over 100 enemy vehicles and heavy weapons, and the capture of over
2000 enemy soldiers. The aggressive, violent and sustained attack led
by Lieutenant Colonel Youngs reduced the enemy's will to fight, and had
a significant impact an the defeat of the enemy and the liberation of
         Kuwait.
