26 February Operation Desert Storm G+2. During the day, the Division
advanced rapidly towards vc-F Obl,ective C, Kuwait
International Airport. ilth Marines followed 4.n close
pursuit with four battalions. 1/12 initially remained
behind providing Direct Support to TF XRay/Taro in the4-r
blocking posi-14.ons and providing a dedicated battery to
support TF Grizzly clearing of Al Jaber Airfield. 3/11
followed in @.race of TF Ripper, the Division's main effort,
while 3/12 reinforced 3/11 and prov4ded fire support to TF
Ripper. 5/11 displaced in echelon with two batteries at a
time in the left portion of TF Shepherd's zone providing
General Support with priority of calls for fire to TF
Shepherd. 1/11 in General Support displaced by batteries up
a corridor between the 77 and 79 easting lines 4n concert
with TF Papa Bear. As 3/11 occupied an intermediate
position, 3/12 displaced and leapfrogged past 3/11 to
o support the attack on MEF Objective
C. Due to the success of the advance, the Regimental
Commander directed all battalions to displace forward to
their designated position areas to be able to support the
Division attack on MEF Objective C no later than 1400.
Elements of all four battalions were firecap ready by 1400.
Enemy resistance was generally light during the advance, and
little artillery support was required. Several Ilth Marines
units captured prisoners and seized large amounts of
abandoned Iraqi equipment. As TF Taro was directed to move
forward to assist in the clearing of MEF Objective C, 1/12
(less A/l/12) moved forward and rejoined the Ilth Marines on
the outskirts of Kuwait City. Specific noteworthy ev;nts
included:
0327: A/l/11 REPORTED POSITIVE READINGS FOR BLISTER AGENT DETECTED ON M256
DETECTION KITS. MAJORITY OF IITH MARINES UNITS ASSUMED MOPP LEVEL 4.
SUBSEQUENT DETECTION AT 0410 WAS ALSO POSITIVE. DETECTION EFFORTS
WERE NEGATIVE AT 0421, AND AFTER SELECTIVE UNMASKING, ALL CLEAR WAS
SOUNDED.
