                        NARRATIVE SUMMARY


                   COMMAND. OPERA-NONS, AND TRAINING
            Zk) Mission. The mission of I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) during the month of
          December 1990 continued to be that originally assigned by the Commander-in-Chief, U.S.
          Central Command (USCINCCENT), Gen H. Norman Schwarzkopf, USA. He directed I MEF
          to defend in sector to protect the vital facilities in the vicinity of Al Jubayl, and on order, to
          further conduct passage of lines with Royal Saudi Land Forces and Gulf Cooperation Council
          forces. Throughout December, however, the focus of I MEF effort was the specific planning
          and preparation for offensive operations as directed by USCINCCENT including the reception
          and training of reinforcements from 11 MEF.
