Duties of a chemical officer in the brigade

1- Give technical consulting to the commander and his officers as 
to protective measures from chemical weapons when putting plans 
and evaluating (assessing) the chemical situation.

2- Supervise the technical training of the chemical units and, the 
units and formations of the brigade, and submitting reports for 
them.

3- Organize the chemical support of the brigade units according to 
the tactical situation and the map of the chemical situation.

4- Supervise the distribution and storage of chemical materials, 
decontamination materials and solutions, and protective equipment 
in the brigade units.

5- Supervise chemical warning methods in the brigade units.

6- Is technically concerned with all chemical factors in the 
brigade.

7- Issue publications and information about chemical weapons that 
are available with the enemy and evaluate these information with 
other elements.

Recommendations for practicing to wear protective equipment by all 
members

In reference to the top secret letter by the command of division 17, 
number 2415, dated October 14, 1989 and circulated according to our 
letter number 160 / chemical, dated October 17, 1990.
1- General:
	In accordance with the order of  President Leader Saddam Hussein 
(God bless him) to carry out exercises on all protective equipment 
of chemical weapons (that is mentioned in the secret and 
confidential letter number 44 dated 9 / 6 / 1989 by the first corps 
command), these recommendations are ready to be carried out 
accordingly and fully.

2- Objective:
	To make all unit members wear protective equipment during periods 
that can last up to 4 continuous hours during a period that is less 
than 3 years.

3- Schedules:
	Protective mask and individual protective equipment are to be worn 
every Monday starting October 16, 1989 at 11:00 according to the 
below schedules:
a- During the month of October 	for a period of 60 minutes
b- During the month of November 	for a period of 75 minutes
c- During the month of December 	for a period of 90 minutes
e- During the month of January 	for a period of 105 minutes

4- Responsibilities:
	a- 	Commanders are directly responsible for supervising the 
execution of these exercises
	b- 	Committees are formed at the headquarters to carry out the 
recommendations
	c- 	The divisionÕs chemical advisor pays periodical visits to your 
units to check the extent of carrying out the exercises. A 
chemical officer from the brigade also visits your units

5- Reports:
	The committee that is formed in accordance with the above paragraph 
4 submits a report on wearing individual chemical equipment and the 
enclosed form to the brigade chemical officer on the 25th of each 
month to be gathered  and sent to the concerned parties.

6- Other matters:
	a- 	Formations put up collective protection equipment at their 
headquarters to make use of them if needed.
	b-	Fill the shortage of individual protective materials at all 
units.
