SUBJECT: AL JAHRA CHEMICAL WEAPONS FACILITY

While there is military construction activity and
chemical defense equipment in the vicinity of 29l342N 04774833E,
there is no indication that this activity is a chemical storage
facility. The precise nature of the facility under construction
is undetermined; however, one possibility is the deployment of
a field hospital. If Iraq is following [ (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(5)
]doctrine, this deployment is identical to that expected for
field deployment of a Soviet medical facility.

This facility is not assessed to be for chemical weapons
storage. To date there is no evidence of chemical munitions in
Kuwait.

      [ (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4) ] identified a chemical
decontamination platoon in a separate, walled area adjacent to the
construction area. Equipment there includes five ARS 14
decontamination vehicles, 3 BRDM-RKHs reconnaissance vehicles, 2
DDA-66 autoclaves/shower units, and five trucks. This unit is
probably supporting the operations of the higher headquarters in
the area.
