                             ANNEX E

(Filter Change Criteria)  to Operation Desert Storm NBC SOP

1.   During Operation Desert Storm the following standards will
apply to changing filters in chemical protective masks.

      a.  Personnel will change filters every six months unless
exposed sooner to chemical agents.

      b.  If attacked with chemical agents (other than Blood
Agents)  change filters after eight separate attacks.

      C.  If a Blood Agent attack is c~nf~rmed, change filters as
soon as possible.

2.   Personnel will use the extra set of ~ilters that they were
issued to replace their old filters.   Follow procedures in STP
21-1, Soldier's Manual of Common Task31 Skill Level 1 for filter
changes.  (Appendix 1).

3.   Filters are a CONTROLLED item. Sections will turn in old
filters to the NBC Room and the CCHC-~~3C personnel will issue new
sets of extra filters on a one-for-on~. basis.

4.   New filters were placed in the~inaC;ks during July and August
1990.  lAW para la. above, personnel will change their filters in
January,  1991.
