Schwar~opf, if he hears (hat somebody0s not SCtiing his mail, be's going after them So we imake
eve,ry effort Lo'aet the mail to them. Skip, but to be very honest with you, yes. Given the way
we re moving around. it does slow down mall delivery.

Q: Could YDU characterize the scope and intensity of anti.aircraft opposition we've seen in
the last two or three days?
A: Quite frankly, if you compare it with tlie start of the air campaign, nowhere ncar the same
intensity. I could conclude a couple of reasons. Nun~ber one, diey become an immediate target for
our air power. We have supremacy of the air, so they become exutmely lucrative and vulnerable
taigets. I would say that would be one reason, if J was an AA gunner, I would have some second
thoughts about taking our air wider fut; and perhaps the fact that he's maybe husbanding his AAA
capability. Those would be Just logical military conclusions I would draw from the fact that it is
  vastly rcd~~ced in tempo.

But I would follow on and say don't get thc impression that it is not a high risk enviroitment
out there for our pilots. When they go in after targets they are ~etting AAA f're. It's stiU a high
risk profession w be an aviator right now, and they're doing a superb job.. very skillful aviators.
But the risk has not gone away totally.

Q: I'd like to follow up on thc fact that you said the Iraqis inay be using these schools1 these
religious areas. Can you give us some details? What do you believe the Iraqis are doing in the schools
and these ~ligious areas1 what exactly are they doing?
A: I think simply trying to protect their assets, be it command and control or, as I said.
aircraft they're trying to put in sesidendal areas. Important assets, military assets they have, we
believe that they are stating to move those into the civilian areas, for the very reasons that we're
not targeting civilian areas as a part~o~ our air campaign.

  an; A: You it wU~ n~~~~~~. an inhit~~~~ ~Y:~u~ was ~~~~~t~j~th~ f?js~vth~e(~~e.
I explained on the Maibte KIA1 the seven ` I explained that, that that was indeed a result
of air~deliver~ weapon systems on the friendly side. *The other one you're talking about was the
cluster bombs we heard were d~~)pped on a Marine convoy, and I do not hive any update on that,
except to know that it is being investigated. We're confident, based on the geography of where they
were bit, that it was well within Saudi territory, and it woLLld not have been enemy fire. It was most
certainly Mendly flre. But until we've closed tile loop on all tile investigations, what aircraft were
flying and where were they, what kind of munitions, I really can't give you a full report But we're
working on it, and when I get the facts I'll share them with you

Q: Do you have current POW totals?
A: it is somewhere in the vicinity of SoO. It has not substantially changed since I talked to
you yesterday. Again, most of those are in the Saudi ~PW camps.

Q: The news talks about 50 American trucks lost in Saudi Arabia. Is there any news about
  thls7
A: Yes, the report that d~ere were 50 trucks missin~ in Saudi Arabia, and it was some Army
 * vehicles that aIiege~y had clisappear~~L The thought was, perhaps, they had been taken by the Iraqis
~ used for some kind of terrorist activity or 10 exploit a penetration in our lines. 1?
