                   of V/VII (US) Corps Field Standing operating Procedures (u)


                   1. PURPOSE. To prescribe policies and procedures for prevent
                   medicine within corps sector.

                   2. SCOPE. Applicable to all units assigned or attached to
                   corps.

                   3. RESPONSIBILITY.

                       a. Staff Proponency. Surgeon.

                       b. All commanders are responsible for maintaining a v4g,-
                   and effective preventive nedicine program IAW USAREUR Supplet
                   1, AR 40-5.

                   4. GENERAL.

                       a. Preventive medicine support 'is provided as follows:

                           (1) organizational (unit) level preventive medicine
                   support is available from field sanitation teams which are
                   responsible to unit commandersfor conducting special control
                   operations essential to the establishment and maintenance of a
                   healthy environment. Division level preventive medicine
                   resources are directed by the division surgeon.

                           (2) Direct preventive medicine support is provided I
                   the area medical authority to units located in that area. Th
                   support supplements that provided by division level PVNTMED
                   personnel. Priority is given to those units without their own
                   organic medical personnel.

                           (3) General preventive medicine support is provided
                   the preventive medicine detachments attached to the corps.
                   Services include investigation, identification, evaluation and
                   recommended actions to improve sanitation of food service
                   facilities, troop housing, water supplies, waste disposal,
                   industrial hygiene and other environmental problems.

                       b. Staff surgeons at all echelons:

                           (1) Supervise the execution of preventive medicine
                   programs in their units. Surgeons assist commanders in
                   maintaining a vigorous and effective preventive medicine prog
                   and advise commanders on the health of the troops.
