bodies) within these dense plu-nes may totally degrade infrared (IR) and visual
optical systems and degrade both visual and IR-type night-vision systems.
Linear-shaped carbon particulates could generate some interference with radar.
Owing to their small size, carbon particulates will pass through aircraft
turbines without damaging the turbine. (Particulates from desert sandstorms
pose a greater hazard to helicopters and aircraft engines than oil-f Ire smoke.
            (U) The oil wells and crude oils associated with oil fields
north of Kuwait City (Raudhatain, Sabriya, and Bahrah) contain fewer wells and
&re less dangerous and than the major oil fields.located south of Kuwait City
and west of Al Ahamadi (Al Burgan, Al Magwa, Al Wafrah, Umm Gudayr, and Al
Manaqish). The northern fields also contain some high-pressure wells; however
the crudes are somewhat heavier and contain less associated gas, making this
northern approach to Kuwait City from the standpoint of massive oil-well fires,
smoke, toxic gas, and fire trenches a less dangerous avenue of approach.
