         ..After Action Review
           Executive Summary

especially in light of the fact that 70 percent of Army
logistic units are in the reserve components. Army Reserve
and National Guard soldiers provided their much-needed and
often unique capabilities with professionalism and
dedication. They interacted with the active components
smoothly to accomplish the most complex missions. Their
performance proved that the reserve component soldiers have
the ability to transfer civilian job skills into the logistic
           support arena.

               c. Care of the soldier remains our number one priority.
Great efforts were made to assure that redeploying personnel
were taken care of in terms of providing for their survival
needs as well as their comfort and morale. A particular
favorite was the "Wolfmobile" fast food trailers, which were
placed in each assembly area. Other comfort and morale
improvements were provided as time and resources allowed.
Morale, Welfare, and Recreation items were placed in all
           assembly areas.

               d. The co=and's redeployment effort produced results
ahead of schedule with airflow and ship departures moving
smoothly. Instead of a 60-day turn-around as experienced by
several shipping lines between ports such as Athens, Greece
and Cairo, we were running a 28-day turn around from Saudi
           Arabia to the United States.

           6. As you review the reports which document our closeout
efforts, we think you will realize that while the actual
fighting of the war ended nine months ago, our missions did
not go away. Closing out the theater presented as great a
challenge to our logistic abilities as opening one under the
conditions encountered in August 1990. The cor=and's
ent of the mission ahead of even the most
optimistic forecasts is a tribute to the technology and the
flexibility of current doctrine. Our successes achieved in
the post-war period is especially strong testimony to the
dedication and professionalism of the young men and women of
our Army today. Take time to reflect on the data that
follows, as this experience and the lessons learned will be
the foundation of future operations of this kind.

                                          WILLIAM G. PAGONIS
                                          LIEUTENANT GENERAL, USA
                                          commanding
