9. The dates of the above moves will depend on the need for
providing preventive medicine service as the troop strength
decreases.
5. Problems. The following are known and anticipated preventive
medicine problems.
a. Insects. There is an increasing problem with insect
infestation, especially flies. Few, if any, pesticides are
available in the supply system. Therefore we are telling user
units of local sources and products their Class A agent can
procure.
b. Temperature. We have initiated WBGT surveillance in all
areas. We have arranged with the local Armed Forces Radio
station to disseminate warnings. To date, the WBOT has rarely
exceeded 80 degrees, due to low humidity and wind.
C. Rear Assembly Areas. Experience, from troop deployment
disclosed problems with sanitation in transient camps.
Surveillance of these is our largest single activity, and
currently the number one priority.
d. CARC Paint. we understand that VII corps plans to
repaint their vehicles camouflage green before leaving the
theater. When they arrived, they painted them brown,
disregarding most safety instructions, and caused several
casualties. We will meet with the appropriate personnel to
outline CARC painting policy and regulations to insure that all
required safety precautions are implemented.
