              10.  At the onset of the ground            2z@ FebrLtiry 199:L, it
              was the mission of the 43rd CSG to ensure the Ist (,.4.iv
              maintained the capability to tactically maneuver up to 250
              kilometers.    This was due to Line   lst Cav9s mission to
              follow the VII Corps envelopment, pass ti-irc)tigh the forwxrd
              fighting brigades, and smash the      remaining forces of the
              Republican Gitard5 located in the     "Basrih Pocket". The
              aci-iieviyig of this capability was   largely due to 43rd CSG
              launching the lst CAv across the      line of departLtre/liiie of
              contact (LD/LC) with full fuel tinks, from -four 24 point
              ROM sites. Two of these were operated by soldiers of the
              183D Maintenance Company and two were run by the 27tli MSS.
              Additionally, the 43rd CSC, provided numerous DS aiain-
              ,@enance contact teams ind maintenance collection points
              -For the Ist Civ during the entire ground campaign. The
              Is@ Cav initiated its attack at maximum fuel. and auimttti--
              ition capacity and never, thrOLkLih five diys of war, lost
              their capability to out maneuver and strike deeper than
              any other division within VII Corps. In the end, -the lst
              Cav was tine furthest north unit from VII Corps, and had
              more forward Class 111, Class V, maintenance, and recovery
              'Assets
                      than xny oti-ier, VII Corps unit.

              :LI. The war tentatively ended for the Ist Cav with -the
              withdrawal of their forces from Iraq on 13 March 19@)l and
              ended with their consolidation in TAA Killeen (NS940456)
              vicinity Hafar CIL Batin on 15 March 1991.        By the t,)arl s

              and tine IOVIlst Field Services Company had washed twenty-
              five thoLt5aind individual laundry bl-tndle@; processed six US
              and 371 Iriqi remains and repaired six thousand uniforms

                  sleeping bags. Our three maintenance companies
              completed over six ti-iol-tsind jobs while the four, truck
              companies drove 1.9 million fatality free miles. fhe
              zi-52nd Ordnance Company received, stored, And issued over
              '00 thousand short tons of ammunition and was lauded as
              the theaters best ammunition compxriy.

              :L2. The single most important lesson learneci from
              Operation Desert Siiield/Sto-i-m was the iktilization of a CSCI
              in a direct support role -Lo a division. The result of
              doing this ensured an adequate and constan-L supply of
              Class III and V to the division. It also provided the
              division the ability to maneuver up to 250 km at any given
              time--a factor treat ensures the division commander maximum
